🗣️ No IELTS? You still have options

Study in Dubai without IELTS — here's exactly how.

Most Dubai universities will admit you without an IELTS score. There are three accepted routes — and we'll tell you which one works for your profile and which universities will take you, before you spend a dirham on applications.

✅ Internal English test✅ Duolingo accepted✅ MOI letter
The three routes

How students skip IELTS in Dubai

"No IELTS" doesn't mean "no English requirement" — it means you can prove your English another way.

1

The university's own English test

Most Dubai campuses run an internal English placement test (often free, online or on-campus). Pass it and you meet the language requirement — no IELTS needed.

2

Duolingo / accepted online tests

Many universities accept the Duolingo English Test and similar. It's cheaper, faster and taken from home — often results in 48 hours.

3

Medium-of-Instruction (MOI) letter

If your school or college taught you in English, an official MOI letter can replace IELTS entirely. Common for students from Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Ghana.

Requirements differ by university, by programme and by your grades. Some competitive or medical programmes still ask for IELTS. We check the current rule for each university so you don't get a surprise at offer stage.

No-IELTS FAQs

Is studying without IELTS legitimate — will my degree still count?
Completely. Meeting the English requirement through an internal test, Duolingo or MOI is an official, university-approved route. Your degree is exactly the same as any other student's. What matters is being admitted properly — which is what we make sure of.
What is the Duolingo English Test and is it cheaper?
It's an online English test you take from home, usually cheaper than IELTS and with results in about 48 hours. Many Dubai universities accept it. We'll tell you the score your target university needs.
How do I get an MOI letter?
Request it from your previous school, college or university — it's an official letter confirming your education was in English. If your institution issues one and your target university accepts it, you may not need any English test at all.
Do I still need English to live and study in Dubai?
Yes — courses are taught in English, so you'll need working English to succeed. "No IELTS" is about how you prove it for admission, not about skipping English itself.

Official facts & sources

"No IELTS" is an official route, not a shortcut. Here is who sets the rules — always re-check the source before you apply.

🗣️ The English rule is real, the routes are official

Each Dubai university sets its own English-entry requirement under its KHDA licence. The alternatives to IELTS — an internal placement test, an accepted online test (Duolingo, TOEFL, PTE) or a Medium-of-Instruction letter — are university-approved routes, not a loophole. Medicine and some competitive programmes still require IELTS.

🎓 A recognised degree

Private universities in Dubai and their programmes are licensed by KHDA (its UQAIB board vets international branch campuses); federal-system programmes are accredited by the CAA. Confirm your university and your specific programme are listed before you pay.

🛂 Student visa

A UAE student residence visa is issued for one year at a time, renewable on proof of continued study, and is sponsored by your accredited university or college (or by a UAE-resident parent). Entry permits and the Emirates ID are handled federally by ICP; residency in Dubai by GDRFA Dubai.

✅ Always confirm per university

English requirements change by intake and by programme. Confirm the current rule on your university's official admissions page — we do this for every applicant before you apply, so an offer is never withdrawn over a language technicality.
