Australia is not a single city: it is an enormous country with very different destinations. Choosing well where to live and study affects your budget, your daily climate and your job opportunities. Here we compare the six favourite cities of international students, without idealising any of them, so you can choose sensibly.

What to consider when choosing your city

🏙️ Melbourne — the most student-friendly and cultural

Often considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. It is Australia's cultural capital: cafés, art, sport, an intense student life and plenty of schools and universities. The climate is cooler and more changeable ("four seasons in one day"). This is where we have our own office, so we know the city like no one else.

Ideal for: anyone looking for a student atmosphere, culture and lots of study and work options.

🌉 Sydney — the most iconic and international

Australia's most famous city: the Opera House, the bridge, beaches like Bondi and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. It has the largest supply of jobs and courses, but it is also the most expensive, especially for accommodation. Mild and pleasant climate for much of the year.

Ideal for: anyone who wants the big city, the beach and international networking, and has a slightly larger budget.

☀️ Brisbane — warm climate and good balance

The country's third city, in sunny Queensland. It offers an excellent balance: a warm climate almost all year, a lower cost of living than Sydney or Melbourne and very good study and work opportunities. More relaxed and easy to get around.

Ideal for: anyone who wants good weather and a big but more affordable and laid-back city.

🏄 Gold Coast — beach and lifestyle

An hour from Brisbane, famous for its beaches and surf culture. Very popular for combining English + lifestyle, with somewhat lower costs. The job market is seasonal (lots of tourism), something to keep in mind.

Ideal for: anyone who dreams of the beach, surfing and a more relaxed pace while studying English.

🌅 Perth — quiet and lower cost

On the west coast, it is a clean, safe city with a very good quality of life. Lower cost of living than the big eastern cities and a solid job market. Its "downside" is being more isolated from the rest of the country.

Ideal for: anyone who prioritises peace and quiet, nature and a tighter budget.

🍃 Adelaide — affordable and welcoming

One of the most affordable cities in Australia, known for its relaxed atmosphere, its parks and its food and wine scene. Smaller, which makes it easier to integrate and practise English in an environment with fewer Spanish speakers.

Ideal for: anyone looking for the lowest possible cost of living and a friendly, manageable city.
